The Unfathomable Love of God that brings Refreshing to the Soul of Man

Ephesians 3:8 - “This grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ.”

There are times that our soul needs to be refreshed and renewed by the Spirit of God. We should all draw near to Him so that His Word, Spirit, and Life can cleanse us and refresh us anew.

Man is a 3 part being according to the Word of God in 1st Thessalonians 5:23, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We want to deal today with the soul of man, because there are times that we need the life of God to touch, heal, renew, and cleanse our soul.

First, we will stop a minute to discuss what the soul of man is so there isn’t any error in what we intend to say. The body is the outward flesh that we see. The spirit of man is that which contacts the Spirit of God in fellowship, and is called in Proverbs 20:27, “the spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, which is searching all the inward parts of the belly.” In 1 Peter 3:4 “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” The last one referring to the spirit of man is called the inner man and it's reference is found in Ephesians. 3:16 “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”

Psalm 103:1 speaks to the soul of man, “Bless the Lord Oh my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy Name; Bless the Lord Oh my soul and forget none of His benefits.”

Our soul needs to be renewed with the truth of God's Covenant Word that He has made with us and reminded of His benefits toward our life, even when we have all missed it in one way or another. The psalmist is saying to himself that he should not forget the benefits of the Lord. Sometimes that is exactly what we do is forget the Love of God that has been graciously bestowed upon us all with other gracious gifts. He says of the Lord, “Who Pardons all of our iniquities, heals all of our diseases, redeems our lives from the pit and crowns us with loving kindness and mercy so that our youth is renewed like the eagle.”

If those things sound too good to be true, then you need your soul renewed by the Covenant of God’s Holy Word as Romans 12:2 says, “and be not conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that your may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Is there anyone that came to Jesus while he walked on the earth who needed their soul to be cleansed with the forgiveness, kindness, restoration, and goodness of the Father’s Love?

In Luke 7:37 & 38 “And behold, there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet, and anointing them with the perfume.”

Everyone, seemingly, except Jesus knew that the one who was coming to Him was a sinner and He allowed her to touch Him and be touched by the compassion and love of the Father through Him. It was no mistake, Jesus came to seek and to save the lost as it is written in Luke 19:10.

1.   I believe from the evidence of scripture that this woman recognized her condition, but was desiring a change. (We really need a change if the love has gone!)

2.   She was humbling herself, not in a religious form to be seen of man, but from the heart. (So often we do things for appearance sake, or because it seems to be expected of us because we are Christians, and that is the way Christians do. However true humility comes from the heart with no pretences or ulterior motives).

3.   Her faith in Jesus, true humility and repentant tears saved her, restored her, and she received cleansing for her sins. Her faith believing in who Jesus was and is was the key to her going to Him. She was obviously a condemned person by the life she lived, but now wanted to change her life, only to find that others would not allow her to do so. How do you change your life when you are so low or feel so low?

A. We must come just as we are and fall at the feet of Jesus with our tears, repentant heart and turn from our own ways and follow after Christ Jesus. He will restore our soul and renew our mind and heal our emotions.

The last example is the woman caught in adultery in John 8:4. There were no good excuses for her or reasons why. She did not even say anything about the man that was with her, in other words, she did not point the finger which she had every right to, and say, "What about him!" There she lay at the feet of Jesus, condemned by those who found her guilty of this terrible act beyond any shadow of doubt.

How then does the unfathomable riches of God’s love, mercy and grace reach down to one who is no doubt a sinner and guilty of all charges?

1.   He turns to the accusers and says, “He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.”

2.   When all the accusers have left one by one, only one stands as the Righteous Judge. Jesus doesn’t stand against us, He stands for us as our advocate and intercessor if we allow him.

3.   Jesus then said, “Where are your accusers, did no one accuse you?”
“No Lord.”
“Neither do I; Go and sin no more.”

Jesus never condemned sin, but became or was made sin on our behalf, that we might become the Righteousness of God in Christ. 2nd Corinthians 5:21.

God has made it possible for each one of us, whether we are in Christ and have become cold or indifferent, or have never come to His grace, to come to God the Father through faith in what Jesus has accomplished for us. In this place, the place of God’s love, we find God’s thoughts and blessings, forgiveness, and healing promises of what we thought could never be. Our emotions are healed, and our minds are renewed with the Love of His will (or Covenant Word) for our lives.

Won’t you allow God to touch your soul today and bring a refreshing there with His presence? He is waiting for you, come to Him today!
